Gallery Manager —
San Francisco, CA

GCS Agency is seeking a savvy, independent, and proactive Gallery Manager to oversee our San Francisco space located at 201 Jackson St. and drive new business opportunities. This role is an independent contractor position (1099), ideal for a self-starter who thrives in both sales and business development, enjoys engaging with collectors and corporate clients, and can confidently represent the gallery for rentals and activations.

Responsibilities

  • Be on-site Wednesday – Friday from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM to manage the gallery and welcome visitors.
  • Conduct outreach to private collectors, corporate clients, and real estate developers to generate sales and business opportunities.
  • Actively promote projects and exhibition programming, providing clients with information about available works and GCS service offerings.
  • Serve as the on-site representative for gallery rentals, ensuring seamless coordination with rental clients.
  • Assist with artwork inventory management, shipping, and receiving.
  • Maintain a professional and visually appealing gallery environment at all times.
  • Support basic marketing and PR efforts related to gallery programming (Social Media and E-mail newsletter).

Requirements

  • Experience in sales or business development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of art handling and using power tools.
  • Must be punctual, professional, proactive, and adaptable.

Additional

  • Photography & content creation – Ability to take high-quality photos or short videos of artworks and events for marketing purposes.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus but not required.
  • Multilingual abilities – Proficiency in additional languages (especially Spanish, French, or Mandarin) is a plus for working with international collectors.
  • Event coordination experience – Ability to assist with planning and executing gallery events, openings, and activations.
  • Social media & digital marketing – Comfortable with Instagram, email marketing, and digital outreach to promote exhibitions and sales.

Compensation (Independent Contractor Role)

  • Competitive hourly rate (based on experience).
  • Commission on art sales generated (includes direct outreach and walk-ins).
  • Flexibility to develop additional revenue opportunities through business development efforts.
